Class Information for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention 1 Day Seminar
Description
This one day course provides the nurse with an introduction to verbal crisis intervention. The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training Program will be used to educate participants regarding verbal interactions with patients who are anxious, disruptive or in crisis. The Clinical Center's approach to prevention and management of violence will also be discussed.

This course is designed for ICU/Medical-Surgical/Oncology/Pediatric nurses from inpatient, outpatient, day hospital and procedure areas
Course Objectives
1. Discuss the four levels of crisis development as defined by CPI
2. Discuss key concepts related to verbal intervention
3. Discuss how to verbally intervene with a patient in a developing crisis
4. Discuss ways in which staff member influences a patient in crisis
5. Practice CPI's personal safety techniques
6. Discuss the Clinical Center's practice documents relating to prevention and management of violence
