Description
This course was designed to prepare health care providers for their role as preceptors. The program provides the tools and motivation for the preceptor to be effective in transitioning students or new staff members into a new job role.
Contact Hours
6.75 nursing continuing professional development (ncpd) credit contact hours will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the course
Special Comments
Contact hours will be awarded to those who attend the entire course and complete and submit the evaluation form. This activity has been approved the Maryland Nurses Association to award contact hours. The Maryland Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Program speakers and coordinators have no relevant financial relationships, conflicts of interest, commercial support or non-commercial sponsorship relating to this course. Target Audience
This course is designed for nurses identified to serve as preceptors within their program of care.
Course Objectives
Define the roles and responsibilities of an effective preceptor. Describe competency assessment and validation methods utilized during orientation planning. Describe strategies and methods to facilitate critical thinking in an orientee. Describe how to deliver effective feedback to an orientee. Explore situations that my present challenges to successful orientation, and strategies to help resolve them. Identify elements of performance evaluation during orientation.
