Description
The purpose of this course is to provide the learner with an understanding of how cellular therapy is used to treat cancer and other diseases, including procedures and practices for cell mobilization, harvest, expansion, and infusion. Additionally, nurses will benefit from detailed knowledge regarding how cellular therapy influences the immune system and the very specific immune related side effects seen with this treatment modality.

Special Comments
This course meets for one 8-hour didactic session. Currently, we plan to hold the course in person! If in person guidelines become more restrictive again due to Covid, we will pivot this course to online. You will receive a detailed email with course instructions.
Target Audience
This course is for nurses caring for oncology AND non-oncology patients in oncology as well as non-oncology areas in inpatient and ambulatory care settings. It is for any nurse who may care for patients who will, are, or have received cellular therapy. This course is appropriate for experienced nurses. Participants need to have at least 6 months of experience working in the Clinical Center with Research Participants and Protocols.
Course Objectives
Following attendance of the Cellular Therapy Course, the participant will be able to: 1. Identify at least two indications for cellular therapy. 2. Describe procedures for cell harvesting, processing, and infusion. 3. Identify at least 2 side effects of cell therapy, including nursing assessment and management strategies.
Pre-requisites
All CCND participants should have previous or concurrent enrollment in the CCND Online Basic Immunology Course. All non-CCND participants should have basic immunology knowledge.
All CCND participants should have completed a Chemo/biotherapy Education Course relevant to their patient population. All non-CCND participants should have basic knowledge regarding chemo/immunotherapy principles.
Additionally, it is recommended nurses working on 1NW, 3NE, and 3SEDH will have previous or concurrent enrollment in the ONS Online Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Course.
