Description
This course is designed to provide didactic and clinical updates regarding Ommaya Reservoir access and management as well as clinical simulation education. It will include hands-on competency re-validation for current Ommaya providers.
Special Comments
This course meets for one 3 hour session. There will be a didactic session followed by hands-on skills validation. Participants will have the Ommaya reservoirs competency re-validated in class.
Target Audience
Clinical Research Nurses working in the Clinical Center that hold the Ommaya Reservoir Competency.
Course Objectives
Participants will: 1) Explain nursing assessment and patient education for research participants with Ommaya Reservoirs. 2) Describe nursing interventions to prevent complications and respond to potential emergencies. 3) Demonstrate care and troubleshooting of Ommaya access during simulation exercise.
Pre-requisites
Clinical Center Nursing Department (CCND) RNs who: 1. Hold a current CCND “Ommaya Reservoir Access” competency 2. Have the goal of revalidating the CCND "Ommaya Reservoir Access" Competency. 2. Hold a current CCND "Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs" Competency. 3. Hold a current CCND "Chemotherapy Biotherapy" Competency.
