Description

This training is based on the Pediatric ELNEC (End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium) curriculum, a program developed by national experts in pediatric pain and palliative care from the City of Hope and the AACN (American Association of Colleges of Nursing). This course will cover the following topics: communication, cultural/spiritual considerations, pain, symptom management, care at the time of death, grief/loss/bereavement, and ethical/legal considerations when caring for pediatric palliative care or end-of-life patients. The course will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 7:30AM-4PM in FAES Classroom #7. For more information, contact Anne Fejka (fejkaa@cc.nih.gov or 301-356-3583).

Contact Hours

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Maryland Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. In order to receive full contact-hour credit for this continuing nursing education activity, the participants must: -Complete the pre-course introductory module and pre-survey/knowledge assessment -Sign the roster with your name and contact information -Attend the entire live course on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 -Complete and submit the online course evaluation and post-survey/knowledge assessment, which will be emailed to all participants at the conclusion of the activity, by Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 5PM. Contact hours for the pre-course introductory module and pre-survey/knowledge assessment for the September 2018 course will be available until Wednesday, September 19, 2018.

Target Audience

Healthcare providers (Clinical Research Nurses, Research Nurse Coordinators, Social Workers, Teachers) working with pediatric patients and their families.

Course Objectives

As a result of participating in this educational activity, participants will describe the nursing care, cultural considerations, loss/grief/bereavement, and effective communication styles necessary when caring for pediatric patients on palliative care or at end-of-life.

Pre-requisites

Completion of the pre-course introductory module and pre-survey/knowledge assessment, which will be emailed to all enrolled participants on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, which should take approximately 1 hour to complete.
