Class Information for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention MEDICAL 1 Day Foundation Course (Medical Nurses and Technicians)

Description

Learn to organize your thinking about how behavior escalates and how to respond appropriately during moments of chaos.This Foundation Course provides the medical nurse with an introduction to verbal crisis intervention. The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Non-violent Crisis Intervention® Training Program will be used to educate participants regarding verbal interactions with patients who are anxious, disruptive or in crisis. The Clinical Center's approach to prevention and management of violence will also be discussed.

Contact Hours

6.5 Contact Hours. CPI is an approved provider of continuing education for the California Board of Registered Nursing. CPI issues certificates of attendance to those who attend the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training program conducted by our Global Professional Instructors.

Target Audience

This course is designed for ICU/Medical-Surgical/IR/PACU/OR/Oncology/Pediatric nurses from inpatient, outpatient, day hospital and procedure areas.

Course Objectives

1. Identify behavior that indicates an escalation toward aggressive and violent behavior and take appropriate measures to avoid, decelerate, and/or de-escalate crisis situations. 2. Assess the level of risk associated with crisis behavior and make appropriate decisions related to the management of such risks. 3. Use suitable and acceptable disengagement skills to reduce or manage risk behavior. 4. Identify the impact of crisis events and describe post-crisis responses that can be used for personal and organizational support and learning. 5. Discuss the Clinical Center's practice documents relating to prevention and management of violence.
