Description
This one day course will help prepare staff nurses to become successful preceptors.
Contact Hours
Session 2/8/19 and 6/28/19: Contact hours will be awarded to those who attend the entire course and complete and submit the evaluation forms. This activity has been approved by the Maryland Nurses Association to award contact hours. The Maryland Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Program speaker sand coordinators have no relevant financial relationships, conflicts of interest, commercial support or non-commercial sponsorship relating to this course. Target Audience
This course is designed for new nurses with at least one year of experience, and for experienced nurses with at least six months of experience in their current clinical area.
Course Objectives
Define the roles and responsibilities of an effective preceptor. Describe competency assessment and validation methods utilized during orientation. Identify learner needs and characteristics as a mechanism to improve orientation/teaching planning. Identify strategies and tools to improve orientation planning. Describe strategies and methods to facilitate critical thinking in an orientee. Describe how to deliver effective feedback to orientees. Explore situations that may present challenges to successful orientation, and strategies to help resolve them. Identify elements of performance evaluation during orientation.
