Class Information for Critical Care Certification Review Course (CCRN)

Description

This three day course will provide information to prepare the registered nurse to take the AACN® Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN®) Certification Examination. Topics include: cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurology, endocrinology, gastrointestinal, hematological, renal, psychosocial, multisystem disorders and Professional Caring and Ethical Practice concepts. Additionally, there is a post-test that will be administered after the course to assess learning.

Contact Hours

Total Contact hours = 12. Contact hours will be awarded to those individuals who attend the all three class sessions and complete and submit the post-test and evaluation forms. Contact hours are provided by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN®). The American Association of Critical Care Nurses is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Target Audience

CRNs in the ICU, OCC Service (Priority), however other CRNs within CCND and associated institutes will be considered on case-by-case basis.

Course Objectives

1. Review and describe physiology of major body systems 2. Relate the pathophysiologic basis of various disease states to the nursing process 3. Identify/evaluate outcome criteria to determine effectiveness of nursing care

Pre-requisites

There are two practice-hour requirement options to choose from for certification eligibility: 1. Two-Year Option- Practice as an RN or APRN for 1750 hours in direct care of acutely/critically ill adult patients during the previous two years, with 875 of those hours accrued in the most recent year preceding application. 2. Five-Year Option- Practice as an RN or APRN for at least five years with a minimum of 2,000 hours in direct care of acutely/critically ill adult patients, with 144 of those hours accrued in the most recent year preceding application.
