Class Information for Preceptor Workshop
Description
This one day course will help prepare the staff nurse for the preceptor role.
Contact Hours
Contact hours will be awarded to those who attend the entire course and complete and submit the evaluation forms. This activity has been submitted for approval to the Maryland Nurses Association to aware contact hours. The Maryland Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Program speaker sand coordinators have no relevant financial relationships, conflicts of interest, commercial support or non-commercial sponsorship relating to this course. Target Audience
This course is designed for the new nurse with at least one year of experience, or for the seasoned nurse with at least six months of experience in their current clinical area.
Course Objectives
1. Understand the roles and responsibilities of an effective preceptor 2. Describe competency assessment and validation methods utilized during orientation 3. Identify learner needs and characteristics as a mechanism to improve orientation planning and implementation 4. Identify strategies and tools to improve orientation planning and implementation 5. Describe strategies and methods to facilitate critical thinking in an orientee 6. Describe how to deliver effective feedback to orientees 7. Explore situations that may present challenges to successful orientation, and strategies to help resolve them
