Class Information for Oncology Education Series - Introduction to Oncology (2 day)
Description
The purpose of this course is to provide oncology nursing fundamentals in cancer pathophysiology, treatment modalities, and oncologic emergencies. This education session is for nurses caring for oncology patients in oncology as well as non oncology areas in inpatient and ambulatory care settings.

Target Audience
This course is recommended for nurses interested in learning more about oncology nursing. This course is recommended for nurses within their first 6 months of oncology nursing at NIH.
Course Objectives
Following attendance of the Oncology Education Series – Introduction to Oncology Course, the participant will be able to:
1. Review the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and staging of the malignant process.
2. Discuss the recent evidence findings related to symptom management and treatment for common oncology diagnoses and the application of these findings into clinical practice.
3. Discuss common cancer treatment modalities.
4. Describe common oncologic emergencies and treatment.

None
This is a prerequisite course for nurses new to Chemo Biotherapy administration competency, who are planning to take the “ONS Online Chemotherapy Biotherapy with Nursing Department Bridge to Practice” course.
